Sheffield's Welcoming Orchestra
Sheffield University’s majestic Firth Court was the stunning venue for this amazing collaboration concert, bringing together the Gospel Music and Classical traditions.
JoAnne Sibanda is a composer and musician, and in her final year studying music at Sheffield University. With a passion for classical music, she continues to serve in her musical capacity in her local church. She has worked with various instrumental ensembles and
choirs including the Sheffield homeschool choir, ‘rejoice’ and‘Unity’ choirs which she founded and also leads. She approach the Endcliffe Orchestra with her proposal for a joint Gospel Choir and Classical Orchestra concert.
The orchestra performed three pieces from the January concert, then the Unity Choir and Dronfield Henry Fanshaw Choir sang some numbers in the gospel style, followed by one of JoAnne’s songs arranged for choir, orchestra and band, her orchestral work Red Sea, and finished with her own Gospel Medley.
The orchestra was delighted to have been chosen to participate in such an innovative and exciting venture. The concert was a sell-out, and a great atmosphere and rapport was found between all the participating groups and the audience.
